Door And Window Locks

The first thing you need to do to deter burglars from your property, is to make sure that the locks you have installed on your doors and windows are as good as can be. Before you go about getting CCTV, alarms and lighting systems it is important that you have robust locks in place on both our doors and windows.  It can be daunting not knowing exactly what locks will work best at your property this is why we have put together a simple guide that will help you ensure you have everything in place that you need to keep the burglars at bay.

Front Door – A minimum of one British Standard (BS3621) mortice lock (with minimum 5 lever) or a BS cylinder night latch is necessary. Having two locks is good practice and should both clearly display the British Kite symbol. If you have a uPVC or composite door, then you will need a British Standard TS007 lock installed.

Back/Side Doors – 3 lever mortice lock is the minimum British standard. Saunders Locksmiths recommend a 5 lever ‘BS3621’ Lock with extra security bolts to secure the top and bottom of your back/additional doors. Again, if you have a uPVC or composite door then you will need to ensure your locks and multi point locking mechanisms meet or exceed BS TS700.

Windows – There are many different types of windows in the UK and your security needs will depend on which type you already have. UPVC windows & double-glazed windows need key-operated locks installed. Sash windows can be secured with sash closers or with key operated locks and dual screws. Window grilles are also available for windows that pose the highest risk of entry or vandalising.

Patio Doors and French Windows – As mentioned above UPVC doors require a multi-Point locking mechanism at a minimum. We can also install BS TS007 cylinders and key operated locks at the top and bottom where required.

CCTV – If your commercial or domestic property require it, Closed Circuit Television Camera (or, CCTV), systems are available for your property. CCTV is often quick and easy to install, and the visibility of CCTV will act as a major deterrent to potential burglars.

Alarms – Alarms are a major deterrent for intruders and can be set to trigger a loud repetitive sound as soon as anyone enters a building of any kind. With light systems to warn intruders there is an alarm system as well as sirens to warn neighbours of an intrusion, these are one of the most effective home security systems around.
